Our Purpose

Stepney Baptist Church exists so that people will come to know Christ and live life in relationship with Him. Our church is made up of people from many denominational backgrounds who take the Bible seriously and who want to go deeper in God .

Our worship service is contemporary from its music to its relevant teaching style. Stepney is a warm atmosphere made up of singles, married, divorced, young and not so young alike . . . all are welcome here!

Many who come here say "it feels like I've just come home". . . perhaps this will be your experience. Please visit us this Sunday at 10:30. Maybe you'll find your new church home.
Our Vision

Our vision is to be a church that manifests the heart of God for our community and the world. Jesus taught us to go into all the world and make disciples. He also instructed us to care for those in need in our own back yard. We think both are important. We are a church that reaches out to those in need in our area and to the ends of the earth. We have a fully operational food pantry opening up in the fall, and have many members who serve the needy in our area. In addition, we have a thriving youth and children's ministries so that every member of the family can grow in their walk with God.

What Makes Stepney a Baptist Church?

We are a Bible believing, evangelical church that teaches that every person is called to embrace a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. "Baptist" means that we practice baptism through full immersion in water after an individual has professed a saving faith in Christ. We don't believe that baptism itself or the absence thereof saves or condemns a person, but that the best biblical evidence suggests that in the first century baptisms occurred by submerging a Christ-follower fully under water. Our baptism services are some of the most fun we have all year!

Stepney has been affiliated with the Baptists since its founding in 1848. This tradition continues today with our long-standing affiliation with the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut (www.abcconn.org/). It's important to understand that Baptist churches are self-governing, which means they decide among their members where they stand on doctrinal and moral issues. At Stepney we make these important decisions based on what the Bible teaches. No outside body or creedal code requires us to ascribe to any belief we are not fully convinced of scripturally.
